Ethanol Flammability, Explosivity and Fire Protection
Ethanol Flammability: Flammable.
Ethanol Hazard Characteristics: Its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air; contact with open flames or high heat may trigger combustion and explosion. Contact with oxidizing agents may cause chemical reactions or combustion. In a fire, heated containers are at risk of explosion. Its vapor is heavier than air, so it can spread to distant low-lying areas and reignite when exposed to ignition sources.
Ethanol Fire Fighting Methods: If possible, move containers away from the fire to an open area; spray water to keep the burning containers cool until the fire is completely put out.
Ethanol Fire Extinguishing Agents: Alcohol-resistant foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide, sand.
