Sodium Formate Production Process Overview
Carbon monoxide is purified and compressed before mixing with caustic soda liquor.
Caustic soda is blended with fresh water and recycled centrifugal mother liquor to prepare alkaline solution at fixed concentration; the prepared feedstock is pressurized via centrifugal pumps and combined with coal gas.
The mixed gas-liquid feed flows into tubular reactors to react under 1.3–2.0 MPa pressure and 150–190°C, generating dilute sodium formate solution.
Dilute sodium formate solution is stored in intermediate tanks and pumped into double-effect concentrators to form concentrated sodium formate slurry containing crystalline solids.
The concentrated slurry is processed with centrifugal separation: separated mother liquor is recycled back to production, while solid crystals are sent into drying equipment.
Finished sodium formate products are obtained after drying treatment.
Available raw sources for CO feed gas include: coke/coal gasification gas, ammonia synthesis purge gas, calcium carbide tail gas, yellow phosphorus tail gas, and other industrial waste gas containing carbon monoxide.
