Sodium hydrosulfite Physical Properties
Sodium hydrosulfite is classified as a Grade 1 moisture-sensitive flammable substance, also known as sodium dithionite. It is commercially available in two forms: hydrated (Na₂S₂O₄·2H₂O) and anhydrous (Na₂S₂O₄). The hydrated form appears as fine white crystals, while the anhydrous form is a light yellow powder. It has a relative density of 2.3–2.4 and decomposes at red heat. Sodium hydrosulfite is soluble in cold water but decomposes in hot water. Its aqueous solution is unstable and exhibits strong reducing properties, making it a powerful reducing agent.
