Bisphenol A, also known as BPA, is an organic compound with the molecular formula C₁₅H₁₆O₂. Industrially, it is used in the production of materials such as polycarbonate (PC) and epoxy resins. Since the 1960s, BPA has been utilized in the manufacturing of plastic baby bottles, sippy cups, and the inner coatings of food and beverage (including infant formula) cans. BPA is ubiquitous—it can be found in a wide range of products, from water bottles and medical devices to the inner linings of food packaging. Globally, 27 million tons of BPA-containing plastics are produced each year.
