What is Ethanol?
Ethanol, commonly known as alcohol, is an organic compound with the structural formula CH₃CH₂OH (or C₂H₅OH) and the molecular formula C₂H₆O. It is the most common monohydric alcohol.
At room temperature and pressure, ethanol is a flammable, volatile, colorless transparent liquid with low toxicity; the pure liquid is not directly drinkable. It has a special aroma with a slight pungency, a slightly sweet taste, and an irritating, pungent sensation. It is flammable, and its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air. It is miscible with water in any proportion and can be mixed with chloroform, ether, methanol, acetone, and most other organic solvents. Its relative density (d15.56) is 0.816.
