Bisphenol A (BPA): Its scientific name is 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane. It is a white needle-like crystal with a melting point of 155–156 °C. It is an important raw material for preparing epoxy resins, polysulfones, polycarbonates, and other products. It can be prepared by the condensation reaction of phenol and acetone under the action of a catalyst.
