I. Raw Material Preparation
The main raw materials for calcium formate are formic acid and calcium hydroxide. Formic acid is typically obtained via the synthesis reaction of phthalic anhydride or orthophthalic acid. Calcium hydroxide is an anhydrous compound, which can be produced by high-temperature calcination of limestone.
II. Reaction Process
Mix formic acid and calcium hydroxide in a specific molar ratio to react and form calcium formate.
Control the reaction temperature between 20–30°C during the process to avoid side reactions.
The reaction is relatively vigorous, generating a large amount of carbon dioxide gas, accompanied by vapor with a pungent formic acid odor.
After the reaction is complete, perform post-treatment (such as dehydration and decarbonization) on the reaction solution to obtain dry calcium formate.
