Propionic acid with a purity of 99.5% or higher must be packaged in alloy or aluminum containers.
Dilute propionic acid cannot be stored in aluminum tanks; use alloy steel or carbon steel tanks with a plastic lining instead.

Propionic acid is a flammable liquid with low toxicity. It irritates mucous membranes and exhibits bactericidal properties.
In case of skin contact, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water.
The maximum allowable concentration in air is 150 mg/m³.
