Sodium Formate Method
The sodium formate method utilizes carbon monoxide and sodium hydroxide to react under catalytic conditions to first produce sodium formate, which is then heated to 400 °C for dehydrogenation to obtain sodium oxalate. There are two different process routes to convert sodium oxalate to oxalic acid: one is the lead process, and the other is the calcium process. The sodium formate lead process is mature with stable product quality and a short production cycle, achieving a yield of 80%–90% and a refined oxalic acid purity of up to 99.5%. However, lead pollution exists in its production process, and the sodium sulfate obtained from the reaction cannot be recycled, leading to the consumption of large amounts of sulfuric acid and caustic soda in production.
